The U.S. Army's World Class Athlete Program (WCAP) is a Program that provides outstanding Soldier-athletes the support and training to compete and succeed in national and international competitions leading to Olympic and Paralympic Games, while maintaining a professional military career and promoting the U.S. Army to the world.

BOXING - 1LT Derae Crane, SSG Reyes Marquez, SPC Marquis Moore, SPC Steven Nelson, and SPC Charles Williams competed at the CO/NM Regional Golden Gloves Championships at Albuquerque, NM on 12 April 2014. SPC Williams won the 123 lbs. weight division with a 3-0 decision over Jose Osorio of New Mexico; SSG Marquez won the 152 lbs. weight division with a 3-0 decision over Ronald Jones of New Mexico; SPC Moore won the 165 lbs. weight division by KO over Chris Montoya of New Mexico; SPC Nelson won the 178 lbs. weight division with a 3-0 decision over Bryant McClain of New Mexico; and 1LT Crane won the 201 lbs. weight division by TKO over Leonid Grachev of New Mexico. All will now advance on to the 2014 Golden Gloves National Championships at Las Vegas, NM on 12-17 May 2014.

PARA-ARCHERY - SSG Steve Bosson and SSG Michael Lukow competed at the 2014 Texas Regional Games Archery Competition at San Antonio, TX on 11 April 2014. SSG Bosson finished in 1st place in the Compound Standing Division with a score of 616; SSG Lukow finished in 1st place in the Recurve Standing Division with a score of 593.

PARA-TRACK & FIELD - SGT Ryan McIntosh competed at the 2014 Texas Regional Games Track & Field on 12 April 2014. SGT McIntosh finished in 3rd place in the 100m Dash.

PARA-ARCHERY - SSG Steve Bosson and SSG Michael Lukow competed at the Arizona Cup Archery Tournament at Phoenix, AZ on 3-7 April 2014. In the Recurve Bow-Open Men Para division, SSG Michael Lukow is in 1st place overall out of the 10 competitors after the qualifying rounds with a combined score of 594. In the Compound Bow-Open Men Para division, SSG Bosson is in 10th place overall out of the 16 competitors after the qualifying rounds with a combined score of 639.

SHOOTING - PFC Nikolas Mowrer competed at the ISSF World Cup at Fort Benning, GA on 2 April 2014. In the Men's 50m Rifle Prone event, PFC Mowrer finished in 3rd place overall with a score of 626.4 in the qualification round and a score of 186.8 in the finals.

BOXING - The WCAP Boxing Team competed at the Colorado State Golden Gloves Championships at Denver, CO on 26-29 March 2014. Winning their weight class and advancing to the Regional Golden Gloves Championships at Albuquerque, NM on 12 April 2014 are 1LT Derae Crane at 201 lbs.; SSG Reyes Marquez at 152 lbs.; SPC Marquis Moore at 165 lbs.; SPC Steven Nelson at 178 lbs.; SPC Charles Williams at 123 lbs.; SPC Fallon Farrar at 152 lbs.; PFC Alexandra Love at 106 lbs.; SPC Melissa Parker at 125 lbs.; and PV2 Rianna Rios at 132 lbs.

PARA-SWIMMING - SPC Elizabeth Wasil competed at the USA Paralympics Springs Nationals at Miami, FL on 27-29 March 2014. In the 100m Freestyle S10 competition, she finished in 7th place with a time of 1:16.32; in the 100m Breaststroke SB9 competition, she finished in 4th place with a time of 1:34.63; in the 200m Individual Medley SM10 competition, she finished in 3rd place with a time of 3:11.54; in the 50m Breaststroke SB9 competition, she finished in 2nd place with a time of 44.62; and in the 200m Breaststroke SB9 competition, she finished in 2nd place with a time of 3:27.56.

SHOOTING - SPC Thomas Csenge and SPC Bryant Wallizer are competing at the ISSF World Cup at Fort Benning, GA from 28 March-2 April 2014. SPC Wallizer finished in 20th place of the 10m Air Rifle Men's Qualification-Relay 1 with a score of 615.9 and did not qualify for the finals. SPC Csenge competed in the 10m Air Rifle Men's MQS Extra and shot a total score of 620.8. SPC Wallizer also competed in the 50m Rifle 3 Positions Men MQS Extra and shot a total score of 1142.

TRACK & FIELD - SSG John Nunn competed in the 20K World Cup Team Trials at Whiting, NJ on 30 March 2014. SSG Nunn finished in 1st place with a time of 1:26:45. This victory qualifies SSG Nunn to represent the United States at the Race Walking World Cup to be held in China on 4 May 2014.

SLED HOCKEY - SSG Jen Lee and Team USA competed at the 2014 Winter Paralympic Games at Sochi, Russia on 11-15 March 2014. In Game 3 of preliminary action, Team USA was defeated by Russia by a score of 2-1. Team USA completed pool play with a 2-1 record finishing in 2nd place in Pool B and qualifying for the semi-finals. In their semi-final game against Canada, Team USA defeated Canada by a score of 3-0. In the Gold Medal game against Russia, Team USA defeated Russia by a score of 1-0 to win the Gold Medal.

WRESTLING - SGT Moza Fay competed in the Men's Freestyle World Cup at Los Angeles, CA on 15-16 March 2014. SGT Fay saw action in the 70Kg match against India defeating his opponent by a score of 11-0. The U.S. Men's Freestyle Team finished the World Cup with a 4-1 overall record and finished in 3rd place overall.

SGT Whitney Conder and SGT Randi Miller competed at the Women's Freestyle World Cup at Tokyo, Japan on 15-16 March 2014. SGT Conder saw action in the 53Kg match against Hungary defeating her opponent by a score of 10-0. SGT Miller did not see any action during the World Cup. The U.S. Women's Freestyle Team finished the World Cup with a 1-2 overall record and finished in 5th place overall.

SLED HOCKEY - SSG Jen Lee and Team USA competed at the 2014 Winter Paralympic Games at Sochi, Russia on 8-9 March 2014. In Game 1 of preliminary action, Team USA defeated Italy by a score of 5-1. SSG Lee played the final 4:42 of the game with 2 saves and 1 goal allowed. In Game 2 of preliminary action, Team USA defeated Korea by a score of 3-0.

WRESTLING - Members of the World Class Athlete Program Wrestling Team competed at the Greco-Roman and Freestyle Armed Forces Championships at Camp Lejeune, NC on 7-8 March 2014. In Greco-Roman competition, SGT Spenser Mango won the Gold Medal at 59Kg; PV1 Ellis Coleman won the Gold Medal at 66Kg; SGT Justin Lester won the Gold Medal at 71Kg; SGT Peter Hicks won the Gold Medal at 85Kg; SGT Pete Gounaridis won the Silver Medal at 98Kg; and PFC Erik Nye won the Silver Medal at 130Kg. In Freestyle competition, SGT Spenser Mango won the Gold Medal at 57Kg; PV1 Ellis Coleman won the Silver Medal at 65Kg; SGT Justin Lester won the Gold Medal at 70Kg; SGT Moza Fay won the Gold Medal at 74Kg; SPC Jack Jensen won the Gold Medal at 97Kg; and PFC Erik Nye won the Gold Medal at 130Kg.

WRESTLING - SGT Whitney Conder and SGT Randi Miller competed in the Lady Klippan Open at Klippan, Sweden on 1-2 March 2014. SGT Conder finished in 2nd place in the 53Kg weight class with a 3-1 overall record while SGT Miller finished in 2nd place in the 69Kg weight class with a 4-1 overall record.

BOBSLED - CPT Christopher Fogt, SGT Nicholas Cunningham, SGT Justin Olsen and SGT Dallas Robinson competed in the 4-Man Bobsled competition at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games at Sochi, Russia on 22-23 February 2014. CPT Fogt teamed with civilian athletes Steve Holcomb, Steve Langton, and Curt Tomasevicz and won the Bronze Medal with a total time of 3:40.99. SGT Cunningham, SGT Olsen, SGT Robinson, and civilian athlete Johnny Quinn teamed together and finished in 12th place with a total time of 3:42.70.

WRESTLING - SGT Joseph Betterman and SGT Spenser Mango competed in the Dan-Kolov-Nikola Petrov Tournament at Sofia, Bulgaria on 21-23 February 2014. In the 59Kg Greco-Roman weight class, SGT Betterman and SGT Mango tied for 5th place, both finishing with 2-2 overall records.

WRESTLING - SGT Moza Fay competed at the Cerro Pelado International at Havana, Cuba on 15 February 2014. SGT Fay finished in 2nd place in the 70Kg weight class with a 2-1 record.

BOBSLED - CPT Christopher Fogt, SGT Nicholas Cunningham, and SGT Dallas Robinson competed in the 2-Man Bobsled competition at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games at Sochi, Russia on 16-17 February 2014. CPT Fogt teamed with civilian athlete Cory Butner and finished in 12th place with a total time of 3:47.19. SGT Cunningham and SGT Robinson teamed together and finished in 13th place with a total time of 3:47.69.

LUGE - SGT Preston Griffall and SGT Matthew Mortensen competed in the Doubles Luge competition at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games at Sochi, Russia on 12 February 2014. SGT Griffall and SGT Mortensen finished in 14th place with a total time of 1:41.703.

SHOOTING - SPC Thomas Csenge and SPC Bryant Wallizer competed at the Rocky Mountain Rifle Championships at Colorado Springs, CO on 12-16 February 2014. In the Men's Prone competition, SPC Wallizer finished in 3rd place with a score of 1250.3 while SPC Csenge finished in 7th place with a score of 1244.9. In the Men's Air Rifle competition, SPC Csenge finished in 2nd place with a score of 1241.2 while SPC Wallizer finished in 7th place with a score of 1235.1. In the Men's 3-Position competition, SPC Csenge finished in 4th place with a score of 2334.0 while SPC Wallizer finished in 8th place with a score of 2304.0.

WRESTLING - The WCAP Wrestling Team competed in the Dave Schultz Memorial Wrestling Tournament at Colorado Springs, CO on 30 January-1 February 2014.

Greco-Roman

SGT Joseph Betterman finished in 1st place in the 59Kg weight class with a 5-0 record; SGT Spenser Mango finished in 2nd place in the 59Kg weight class with a 4-1 record; SGT Peter Hicks finished in 2nd place in the 85Kg weight class with a 2-1 record; PFC Erik Nye finished in 3rd place in the 130Kg weight class with a 4-1 record.

Men's Freestyle

SGT Moza Fay finished in 3rd place in the 74Kg weight class with a 4-1 record.

Women's Freestyle

SGT Randi Miller finished in 1st place in the 69Kg weight class with a 4-0 record.

SGT Joseph Betterman was named Outstanding Wrestler for Greco-Roman and SGT Randi Miller was named Outstanding Wrestler for Women's Freestyle.

MODERN PENTATHLON - SGT Dennis Bowsher, SPC Logan Storie, and PFC Nathan Schrimsher competed in the USA Pentathlon National Team Qualifier #2 at Colorado Springs, CO on 25-26 January 2014. PFC Schrimsher finished in 1st place with 5,752 points; SGT Bowsher finished in 3rd place with 5,552 points; and SPC Storie finished in 5th place with 5,236 points.

BOBSLED - CPT Christopher Fogt, SGT Nicholas Cunningham, SGT Justin Olsen, and SGT Dallas Robinson competed in the World Cup competition at Konigssee, Germany on 25-26 January 2014. In the 2-Man Bobsled event, SGT Cunningham teamed with with civilian athlete Andreas Drbal SGT Robinson and finished in 6th place overall and 2nd of 3 American sleds with a combined time of 1:40.18. In the 4-Man Bobsled event, CPT Fogt teamed with civilian athletes Steve Holcomb, Steve Langton, and Curt Tomasevicz and finished in 1st place overall with a combined time of 1:38.54; SGT Cunningham teamed with SGT Olsen, and civilian athletes Johnny Quinn and Abe Morlu and finished in 10th place overall and 2nd of 2 American sleds with a combined time of 1:39.21.

Congratulations to 1LT Kristi Koplin who was selected as a 2014 U.S. Bobsled Team replacement athlete. Replacement athletes can substitute for competing athletes during training runs, and they are eligible to compete in the event of an injury or illness.
